Review Of The Day: Karamanlidika

This restaurant is loved not only by locals, but tourists too.

The restaurant is located in one of the back streets that connects Psyri and Omonia together. It once was a known street that prostitutes would hang out at and yet it still has that gritty suburban atmosphere.

However, the restaurant stands out like a needle in a haystack; since it is visually attractive externally and internally.

The interior is designed to look like an authentic deli shop, with fake deli meat hanging from the ceiling, surrounding the deli counter and deli meat and cheeses.

The lighting is dimly lit, which creates a romantic environment and also a quiet, intimate dining experience.

Once you are seated, you are served a taste of prosciutto with cheese as nibbles. The menu is at a decent price, and the menu offers appetisers, salads, a selection of cold cut meats with cheeses, fish and hot dishes.

If you are planning on ordering a starter, then a great suggestion would be the spring rolls filled with the dry cured meat pastroma and tomato. It is served with Greek yoghurt on the side, which adds more depth to the flavour.

As for salad, the bulgur wheat salad is refreshing and light. It is served with fresh tomato and lemon.

Since you are in a restaurant that looks like a deli shop, it would be logical to order the cold cuts meat platter.

It comes on a wooden board with an array of cold cured meats, with different cheeses, chutney, dried apricots, crisp bread and a bit of salad.

There are some meats like the pastroma that will instantly melt in your mouth like sugar paper and there are some like salami that have a smoky flavour.

The cheeses can come as strong and crumbly, some are mild and soft and others are strong and mild.
